Crispy Dogs umm umm good!

How do you turn those drab old dogs into a real treat? Here is a receipt I learned way back when I was a child. And I can honestly say that I have enjoyed many an evening of TV, VCR Movies, CD Movies, DVD Movies and now Computerized Movies with a hand full of Crispy Dogs.

To start off this delicious receipt, you are going to need the following (to drink w/ your Crispy Dogs:

  1. Favorite iced beverage (coke, tea etc)
  2. Glass
  3. Ice

The utensil items needed for you Crispy Dog Adventure are the following:

  • Paper towels
  • Pan to boil water
  • Small knife with a sharp pointed end (like a steak knife)
  • Pair of tongues
  • Cutting board
  • Small frying pan
  • Clean plate
  • Blender
  • Medium size bowel for hot sauce
  • Towel you are willing to discard after the preparation
  • plate

The utensil items needed for you Crispy Dog Adventure are the following:

  • 1/2 to 1 cup of corn oil
  • 10 hot dogs
  • package of red corn tortillas (white or yellow will do...but not flower tortillas)
  • 1 package of extra sharp cheddar cheese (sharper the better)
  • small can of whole tomatoes (don't get the generic, the generic is mostly water)
  • 1 table spoon of cilantro, freshly chopped or dry packaged
  • 1 table spoon of ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon of table salt
  • 1 whole jalapeno (fresh or pickled)

Making the Crispy Dogs

Crispy Dog Instructions

Fill pan with approximately half full of water and place on stove. Turn stove to high heat.

While water is heating to a rolling boil, open cheese and hot dogs.

Cut cheese in approximately 1/2 inch long rectangular squares (see picture included)

When water begins to boil, place all 10 hotdogs into the boiling water and cook until hotdogs begin to plump up.

Using the tongs careful remove the hotdogs one or two at a time onto a small cutting board.

Using your sharp tipped knife, slit the hotdogs long ways from one end to the other. Make the incision about 2/3's through each hotdog being careful to not cut the hotdogs into 2 halves, (see picture).

Place your long strips of extra sharp cheddar cheese into the open incision of each hot dogs. Repeat for all 10 hot dogs. Once completed, carefully remove the pan and water and dispose of in the kitchen sink being careful not to burn yourself with the steam.

Next Place the frying pan on the stove and pour the corn oil into the frying pan, Return heat to high.

Open the package of corn tortillas.

On a non heated area of the stove, place your towel.

Once oil in hot, place your first corn tortilla into the oil.

Using the tongs, move the tortilla in the oil to insure the tortilla is totally covered in the hot oil. Then using the tongs, turn the corn tortilla over in the pan and repeat the process insuring the hot oil covers the entire corn tortilla.

Using the tongs, pick up the corn tortilla out of the hot oil and place the corn tortilla onto the towel. Once on the towel, pat the corn tortilla with the towel on both sides to remove excess oil.

Take one hotdog stuffed with extra sharp cheddar cheese and place near one edge of the corn tortilla. Then begin to roll the corn tortilla around the stuffed cheddar cheese hot dog being careful not to burn your fingers. (The corn tortilla will still be very hot from the previous hot oil).

Once the stuffed cheddar cheese hot dog is wrapped with the corn tortilla remove it from the towel and place on a clean plate. Repeat the process for the remaining 9 cheddar cheese stuffed hot dogs.

Remove the frying pan from the heat and turn off the stove to prevent a fire.

Remove the hot sauce from the freezer and take to the living room along with the plate of Crispy Dogs, your favorite iced drinks and paper towels.

Turn on your favorite TV show, or DVD movie, dip the Crispy Dogs into the Hot Sauce and Enjoy...mmmmmmmm i love it!

Call me when ready and I will be happy to come over to inspect our Crispy Dogs, (I like iced tea with lemon :) )

Leave a comment and let me know how you and the kids like them.
